Plant-Based Universities Basel
A purely plant-based diet is the next logical step in combating the climate crisis.
Aim
We need universities to take responsibility to tackle the climate crisis. The scientific evidence is clear: we need a transition to a plant-based food system to combat the climate crisis, man-made biodiversity loss and further transgressions of planetary boundaries. That is why we are calling for a gradual transition to 100% plant-based food by the fall semester of 2030.Effect
Switching to plant-based catering can save up to 50% of greenhouse gases and 76% of agricultural land globally. In 2023, 434 tonnes of CO2eq were emitted by the university in the food sector. This will be significantly lessened by switching to plant-based catering.Status
